Full Itinerary
Depart Florence
As you head to the Pisa tour part of you trip, your guide will start to build a picture of the city’s maritime past as a power that rivalled places like Genova, Amalfi and even Venice. You’ll learn interesting historical facts and discover the many famous monuments that were constructed during this time in the so-called Field of Miracles (named by the Italian writer and poet, Gabriele D’Annunzio), now a UNESCO world heritage site and home to the most iconic of them all - the Leaning Tower of Pisa. As you pass through the beautiful Tuscan countryside you’ll learn fascinating details around the design and construction of the tower, finding out exactly why it leans as it does. You’ll also hear stories and facts around the city’s great rivalry with Florence, the Medici family and their connection with the city as a centre of learning, and about some of its other famous residents, including Galileo Galilei.
Pisa
Once you arrive in this magnificent city, the first stop will be the aforementioned Field of Miracles, where you visit the Cathedral and, of course, climb the Leaning Tower itself. It is just as incredible as you’ve always imagined and abounds with photographic opportunities. After that you'll take a guided ride on a horse carriage to discover the city’s other attractions in the charming historic centre and riversides.
Lucca
Next, your private Tuscany tour will take you on to beautiful Lucca, a walled city known as the ‘Little Vatican’ owing to its abundance of churches. Here you can opt either to explore on foot or by bike and get lost in the streets where the famous composer Puccini grew up, walk or cycle around the 4km wall that surrounds the city, visit the San Marino Cathedral and Guinigi Tower, and sit at one of the many characteristic open air cafes in the famous and beautiful amphitheatre square. Relax with something to eat or sip a glass of wine and simply soak in the charm and culture of this unique square as you watch the world go by. We’re so proud of this truly immersive private Tuscany tour that takes in two of our very favourite cities in one glorious afternoon.
