Siena’s Duomo

The Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore (otherwise known as the Duomo) is located in the Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square), and will without a doubt be one of the most impressive buildings you’ll see during your trip to Italy. The main structure of the cathedral was built at the end of the thirteenth century, but it was not until the fifteenth century that it was finished and the magnificent dome was added. This striking dome was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, and to this day remains the biggest of its kind to be built out of bricks and masonry. Pretty impressive, right?

When visiting this magnificent building, it’s advised that you wear comfortable shoes – you have 463 steps to conquer before you reach the top of the dome! Once you’ve finished hyperventilating and wiping the sweat from your brow, you’ll finally be able to appreciate the views – and they’re more than worth the climb.

Giotto's Bell Tower

One of the reasons why Florence is one of the best Tuscany destinations is because it offers so much in one space – namely, the main Cathedral Square. Not only will you have the chance to see the views from the beautiful cathedral, but you can also explore the nearby museum, the Baptistery and of course, Giotto's famous Bell Tower where more unforgettable views await.

The beautiful tower offers impressive panoramas over Florence, but there’s still a tough climb to undergo before you can enjoy them! While exploring the building, you can admire the relief carvings which are said to narrate the ‘Creation of Man’ as well as the 16 life-size statues and other great masterpieces. Giotto’s Bell Tower is definitely worth a visit if you’re an art fanatic!

Vernazza and Doria Castle
