Meet Our Guides: Gloria

Our wonderful tour leaders are a big part of what makes Walkabout Florence so special. With their passion, knowledge and ability to relate to clients from all over the world, they bring a sense of fun and adventure to all our day excursions.

In this post we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Bani, we think you’re going to like her…

As someone who’s always up for a challenge, being a tour guide is a wonderful adventure for Gloria no matter which tour she’s leading. Working for Walkabout Florence allows her the freedom to step out of her comfort zone and share her passion and love for her local region with new people every day.

Growing up in her beautiful hometown of San Gimignano has instilled in Gloria a deep knowledge of the cuisine and wine of Italy, a knowledge she has taken to the next level with her specialised studies in agritourismo management. It’s something that comes in very handy on our food and wine tours, because who better to learn from than a true local?

One of Gloria’s favourite parts of being a guide is meeting clients from all over the world and she’s known for her sense of fun and enthusiasm. Her warm personality makes her a favourite with people of all ages and she’s got a real knack for making her groups feel relaxed.

As well as being an expert on all things Italy, Gloria has another secret talent – organising sing-alongs! On one tour, after a little girl asked her to sing with her, the whole bus ended up clapping and singing along! She also recalls her most treasured experience as a tour guide was coming back from a day at the Cinque Terre and convincing the entire group to belt out Van Morrison’s Gloria.

Capable and confident in any situation, Gloria doesn’t let anything faze her: not even one of her clients setting off the emergency brakes of a train to Monterosso while having a bit of a stretch…
